Guiding Service

My guiding services are now available to assist fly fishermen on both game and coarse rivers. I'd be happy to advise and arrange your special day anywhere from one of Derbyshires finest trout and grayling rivers to your own local coarse river. Email Mick Martin for details and options. Tupps Indespensable

Finally after an awful month, the beginning of May offered me an opportunity to wet a line on the Wye and although the river was ripping down and holding colour I was gonna have a good bash. The river had become an unfamiliar place with usual features having moved some way due to the torrent. The fish were probably jostling for pole position on their new track and I was finding things equally difficult walking along the riverbank.
One thing I did notice was a slow trickle of what appeared to be pale watery's with that unmistakable colour, but considering they could be a smudge early and things were a little chilly I wasn't definate, this had happened before. I spoke to another member who said he'd seen olives and caught one for inspection which would probably fit the bill better but the wrong colour. However after some research I've come to the conclusion that possibly medium olives could fit the bill but they appear very pale compared to usual hatches around Derbyshire. Without catching one which proved difficult its hard to be certain but the good news is the same fly would do the business if the fish were feeding on them. Truggs Indespensable (info above to be confirmed)
I found a suitable place with fish rising and they obliged, to my suprise all browns I was pleased to say, strange how the Wye can have brown days were the rainbows seem well beaten and visa versa. I bumped into the chap from earlier (Bob)and after explaining my success and offering him my Truggs Indispensable, he was soon away catching beautiful browns like the one above he's holding. I was trying not to take many fish shots on my blog but the stamp of brown was fantastic so forgive me for showing the brownie in the bottom picture. Both me and Bob teamed up until dusk and enjoyed a special night which hopefully we'll get to do it again and after eventually shaking hands and bidding our farewells sadly the night had to end.
