Guiding Service

My guiding services are now available to assist fly fishermen on both game and coarse rivers. I'd be happy to advise and arrange your special day anywhere from one of Derbyshires finest trout and grayling rivers to your own local coarse river. Email Mick Martin for details and options. Proper Fathers Day

After my 5 fathers day cards along with a few homemade delights my gang sent me off fishing the Wye for the day. After missing the "One And Only" for a few weeks I was keen to get back to some real fishing, mind you any fishing would be great after the last few weeks and afterall today was all about me, me, me.
After a fathers day full english at Tommy Tuckers of I went singing along to Northern Soul tracks all the way to Congreave for a dose of solitude which I gratefully received while also catching a few rainbows.
Sedges were the mainstay with the odd fish caught on olives, mays, sturdys fancy, double badgers etc. The weather was a little blustery and overcast so the fishing was patchy, mind you the river desperately needs filling up which I suspect makes the trout a little extra cautious through the daytime.

After teatime early evening the river came alive with fish rising everywhere and a fare few were caught both brown and rainbow, the sky cleared leaving close to perfect conditions, no suprising the fish switched onto the spinner which always makes fishing here sublime, second to none.

After getting an amazing run taking me onto my backing for the first time ever, I eventually landed a fine rainbow, to my suprise after a bonefish type run it was less than 3lb, a true testiment to the wild Wye rainbows. Minutes later came the cherry on top with the seasons first grayling which proved camera shy, but I think even with this dodgy pic you get my drift, a truly beautiful specimen to end a perfick Fathers Day.

It's good to be back on "proper" flies again, instead of the budgerigars and canaries we use durung the Drake, eh?

You can say that again, size 18's worked a treat, especially with spinners.
