Guiding Service

My guiding services are now available to assist fly fishermen on both game and coarse rivers. I'd be happy to advise and arrange your special day anywhere from one of Derbyshires finest trout and grayling rivers to your own local coarse river. Email Mick Martin for details and options. In Safe Hands

Fished the Wye yesterday with one of the lucky winners of River Erewash Foundations Wye Auction days kindly donated by Warren Slaney. I'm pleased to report a return to form for the Wye providing good sport through the day in the wilder sections with best fly a Midway (peacock quill)taken plenty of rainbpws and grayling with the best lady shown below.
Other flies effective were CDC sedges and the PPS although the spinner fall wasn't quite up to par lastnight but my guest Kev had already experienced an amazing day so when we spent the last couple of hours in town playing this lunker below for 20 mins along with a few others took Kev into fishing Utopia.
NOTICE Anyone attempting to fish in Bakewell Town please ensure your unhooking mat and long handled large net is at hand. Once netted leave the fish resting submerged in the net before lifting from the water, while checking mat position and preparing camera. Place the net/fish onto the matt and drop to knees to remove the hook and take picture being sure to keep fish above the mat. Place the fish/net back into water and rest again in lose net to ensure gill movement then finally remove from net and hold the fish by its tail until it kicks away safely. If you haven't the right equipment to handle them safely then you shouldn't be trying to catch them in the first place in my opinion.

Agree with your notice there Mick. One day trout will get the same respect that coarse fish get. We just need to plan ahead a little.

The Wye is the exception and could easily catch out an above average angler. Worth a mention at Peacock Flyfishers in my opinion.
