The Derbyshire Derwent fished her socks off tonight, fish hard on Green Drake forcing me to show restraint. Spent plenty of time observing a good swarm dancing behind the trees on the riverbank, in fact it was the best hatch I've seen for several years on the Derwent, showing lots of promise for an exceptional mayfly season so strike while the irons hot and get out there.
I tried to film the hatch on my camera which isn't brilliant but good enough to imagine the chaos, crashing water, acrobatics and rising fish everywhere, some reachable and a few impossible to attempt casting at. Suddenly becoming very dark over Bill's Mothers the temp dropped and calmed things down around 8pm. After a dissapointing mayfly season last year i think they could make up for it this year - happy days.
