Guiding Service

My guiding services are now available to assist fly fishermen on both game and coarse rivers. I'd be happy to advise and arrange your special day anywhere from one of Derbyshires finest trout and grayling rivers to your own local coarse river. Email Mick Martin for details and options. Wolfscotedale

I arrived at Beresford Dale and parked the car in DCAC private car park next to the river, a real bonus but just par for course with this most excellent club. I could see John & John fishing the meadow and quickly tackled up an got cracking. Her Majesty was in fair condition with a slight tinge but better than I expected to be honest considering all the constant rain of late. I managed a tiny brown from the 1st pool before catching the lads and moving downstream for the day.

Fishing wasn't easy to start with but we managed to pick a few off with sedge patterns and Klinkhammers, all small, wild and beautifully formed. Although nothing was rising, today was a case of covering all the likely places fan casting to draw them out. Small flies didn't stand a chance today with little rising so the big guns came out - size 12's.

Nearing the lower end of the stretch I tried my Elk Hair Sedge which got nailed instantly by this fine Wilde below. The river came alive this end which is unusual in my experience of Wolfscotedale and the size also got bigger, the last couple of pools quickly bringing around 15 fish including this fish below. On the whole another most excellent days fishing resulting in around 30 fish with no stockies to be seen.
